The New Bank

On 15 February 1996,
ninety years to the day following the establishment of the first Bank of
Abyssinia, a new privately-owned bank with this historic name, but otherwise
not connected with the older bank, came into existence.
The subscribed capital
of the new Bank of Abyssinia (BOA) was Birr 25 million and its authorized
capital Birr 50 million, with 131 shareholders, all Ethiopian.

Statement
As Abyssinia was one of the earliest civilizations in ancient
times and as Abyssinia Bank was the first bank in the history of Ethiopia,
Bank of Abyssinia shall be a standard bearer in the banking industry in Ethiopia
and an international player capable of being compared favorably with the best
institution in its class world wide.
Mission Statement
BOA’s mission is to provide domestic and international banking
services through innovative utilization of technology, human and
other resources, and be recognized as quality focused, results oriented,
financially sound and socially responsible bank . The Bank is
